OUGD503 - Collaborative Brief Brainstorm

Collaborative Practice

The Problems:
⁃Stereotypes
⁃Judgement
⁃Differences: how people get into dance, street dance may be more relaxed in their approach and encouragement to outsiders whilst ballet is much more start from a young age and build it up, quite a strict community.
⁃Experiences: how different dancers are treated in certain circumstances.

The Brief/Rationale:
A performance that combines the two types of contrasting dance in order to break stereotypes and bring the two dance communities together to highlight the way in which both dance styles can compliment each other.

Putting on a dance show showing the contrast and stereotypes between different types of dance within the community.

Theme/Dances:
Romeo and Juliet type story?

Potentially give them a piece of music, SD have first 8 bars, B have next 8 bars etc etc for the opening. Shows a sample of what the show will be about.
A strong SD piece
A strong B piece
SD piece more contemporary - one member of ballet
B piece a bit more up beat - one member of SD in it
End with a collaboration of both mixing together, B doing street and visa versa etc
