OUGD505 - Further Idea Generation and Brief

After going through the answers to the questionnaire it became very prominent that a lot of people felt that creating an understanding of mental health is something that is not being educated in a sufficient way and that it is something that people need to be educated in more. I therefore started to think about the school system and how it could be something that is discussed with younger children so that when growing into adult life there is already an awareness. I therefore was thinking of what I could create that would be helpful for the school curriculum that is engaging but still informative for children. This would also be to help those children that struggle with anxiety themselves.

Idea Generation:
  • Escape room experience
  • Video
  • Agony Aunt, letter box system
  • App
  • Activity Book - Coping mechanisms
Look into mental health in young people. Educating children of earlier ages about mental health would help to solve the problem of people getting to an older age and being fairly clueless when it comes to their own or the people that surround them with mental health problems.

Brief:

To create some sort of interactive way to introduce mental health to children and to teach them ways to deal with the symptoms that come with it. By dealing with the problems at this young age it will prevent a really severe case that could have occurred in later life. This will help them as they grow up to have an awareness of mental health and would help for it to be seen as something that can be talked about and doesn't need to have such a shocking stigma surrounding it.
Target Audience: Key stage 2 children
