LCC's Existing Wayfinding System

LCC's Existing Wayfinding System

LCC's wayfinding system needed to be flexible taking into account the four different buildings where room names and numbers had the possibility of moving. It also needed to be fairly cheap due to the colleges recent move which had already cost them a lot of money.

The wayfinding system that has been designed is an extremely adapable system and the material palette is inspired by LCCs key principles.

It is possible for the signage to be fixed to any wall type as it uses a consistent background plate made from perforated powder-coated aluminium. These backgrounds allowed for room types and directional signs to be screwed on top. It also uses colour coding to highlight the colleges four main areas and Helvetica has been used creating a consistent design across the college and UALs overall identity. These features can be seen in figure 1. I personally think that this is a very clever and inventive design that is extremely subjective to the college itself but is also very objective as it makes it extremely obvious what you have to do and where to go with no margin for error. It is very clear and fits the design brief perfectly.
