History of the light bulb

The first attempt at the creation of the light bulb was made by Sir Humphry Davy.
The electric light was not actually invented in 1879 by Thomas Alva Edison but he created the fist practically working light. It was claimed that there was possibly a total of up to 20 inventors working on the lamp prior to Edison’s version however he was the first to make it successfully work to a marketable standard.

Scientific definition of light:
'Light is a form of energy that can be released by an atom. It is made up of many small particle-like packets that have energy and momentum but no mass. These particles, called light photons, are the most basic units of light.'

Light bulbs in pop culture:

Old fashioned bulbs are being brought back into use in fashion and photography as they “It creates a very warm glow, through a broad spectrum with many colors,” said Paul Bentel, whose firm Bentel & Bentel hung cascades of reproduction Tesla bulbs, similar to the original Edison, throughout Craft restaurant near Gramercy Park in 2001. “A red apple will look as good as a green pear.”

Guinness World Records:

When looking into the Guinness World Records I noticed that in 4 years time it will be the 70 year anniversary. I thought that this could be an interesting concept to include in my design work. I looked into some of the world records that have been made that are to do with light bulbs and the ones that I found can be seen below:

'The Livermore Centennial Light Bulb, at Fire station, Livermore, California, USA, has been burning since it was installed in 1901. As of 2010, the hand-blown bulb has operated at about 4 watts, and has been left on 24 hours a day in order to provide night illumination of the fire engines. There has only been one break in its operation when it was removed from one fire station and fitted in another.' - Figure 1.

'The largest light bulb display (indoors) consists of 824,961 bulbs and was created by Universal Studios Singapore (Singapore) at Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore, on 17 November 2016.
The attempt was a part of the Christmas lights attractions for the visitors to the Universal Studios.' - Figure 2.

'The farthest light bulb throw is 33.51 m (109.94 ft) and was achieved by Harshvardhan Gupta (India) at Shop-In Park Mall, Delhi, India, on 1 July 2014.'

'This record is for the greatest number of people arranged in formation to create an image of a lightbulb at a single venue. This record is to be attempted by a group of unlimited size. This record is measured by the number of participants.'
