Object - Further Design Development

Object - Further Design Development

For the design of the 70 years of Guinness World Records logo I changed the original logo that is used for the books and made it black and white. I thought that it would be nice to keep a little bit of colour however and leave the star yellow to make sure that the logo still stood out when it was put into context in the packaging. I then added the 7 in the front of the logo to create the number 70 to represent the 70 years of Guinness World Records. The logo is very simplistic but I didn't want to change it too much so that it would no longer be recognisable as it may loose some of the meaning and publicity. You can see my design in Figure 1.

I needed to recreate the lettering for the Edison Mazda as it was extremely outdated. I therefore decided to look into the typeface which the Guinness World Records actually uses so that I could keep a consistent theme across the whole of my packaging. The typeface that is used by Guinness World Records is Arial so I therefore decided to use this for the Edison Mazda lettering and also across the rest of the packaging. Figure 2 shows the experiments with the use of Arial to recreate the lettering. I wanted to keep the colours very simple like the rest of my packaging but thought that I could try and incorporate the dark blue that was used in the original logo. Although this was a nice idea in theory it was not the design that I decided to use in the end. I discussed with my peers which design they thought would be the best to use and most agreed that the one that is white on black would compliment the 70 years logo and the rest of my packaging best.
