Wayfinding Research

I have been looking into the game Cluedo as I discovered that is was created in Leeds. The game was first manufactured by Waddingtons in the Leeds, UK in 1949. I want to find a way to create a wayfinding system that incorporates the aspects of the game encouraging people to move around the city.

'The classic detective game! In Clue, players move from room to room in a mansion to solve the mystery of: who done it, with what, and where? Players are dealt character, weapon, and location cards after the top card from each card type is secretly placed in the confidential file in the middle of the board. Players must move to a room and then make an accusation against a character saying they did it in that room with a specific weapon. The player to the left must show one of any cards accused to the accuser if in that player's hand. Through deductive reasoning each player must figure out which character, weapon, and location are in the secret file. To do this, each player must uncover what cards are in other players hands by making more and more accusations. Once a player knows what cards the other players are holding, they will know what cards are in the secret file. A great game for those who enjoy reasoning and thinking things out.'

The game has a total of 9 rooms which are what I intent on replacing with the buildings that I have chosen from the map and it has 6 characters which will be the architects of the buildings. 



I want the game to use some of the most famous places in Leeds and the ones that attract tourists. I also didn't want them to be too widely spread as I want people to stay engaged in the game and not get bored of playing due to too much walking. 


The points on the map show the buildings which I decided to use for my wayfinding system. They are all in and around the centre of Leeds and I also think that they are buildings which people coming to Leeds would be interested in seeing. I also researched into the architect of each building to go with the idea of using them as characters.

From looking into the Architects of the buildings I became aware that there are a few recurring people however it gives me the same amount of people as the board game which is 6, meaning that it worked out perfectly.
