OUGD504 - Creation of the Sleeve

Creation of the Sleeve:

After discussing the sleeve designs with my peers and tutor I decided that the best one to go with would be the one with the laser cut detail. This is because it was the most representative design of the book as a whole as it used the same layering technique and seeing something through the cut out.
To make this I measured out the sleeve to make sure that it would fit the book and created an Illustrator document with my design on it to take to the laser cutting room.
The images below show my design being cut into the paper with I had cut down to the size of my sleeve.

I experimented with the placing of the design to see what would work best and also experimented with the use of a half sleeve instead of a full sleeve.

The chosen design was the full sleeve with the text in the middle. This was the design that I had originally envisioned as it correspond with the other cut outs that have been used throughout the book that are placed in the middle of the page. When deciding on whether to use the full or half sleeve I asked for the opinions of my peers who thought that the full sleeve would be the best to go with. This is because it once again is more representative of the theme of the book and the perception of gin and tonic being a sophisticated and classy drink.
