A1 Poster - A1 - A4 Fold Research

Ways to fold A1 to A4:

As part of my research for the A1 posters I experimented with a few different ways to fold down the poster from A1 to A4 still displaying the section of the poster that I wanted to be visible at A4.
The screen shot below shows the poster which I have designed with a cross on the section of the poster which I aim to be showing when I fold it down to A4. I chose this section because I thought that is was most aesthetically pleasing and invites the viewer to want to see more of the poster and understand what it is about.

Once I had picked the section of the poster which I wanted to be visible I used a piece of paper to experiment with the different ways which I could fold the paper to the size I needed to

Figure 1

The first way that I folded the paper as seen in Figure 1 was the simplest method of folding. I continued to fold the paper in half until the section that was left was the one which I had chosen as shown by the cross drawn on the paper.

Figure 2
The second folding technique as seen in Figure 2 was by folding the paper by the long edge initially rather than the short edge. I then folded each quarter of the paper in turn until the section with the cross was the piece left.

Figure 3
The final folding process that I tested as seen in Figure 3, involved folding the paper by quarters from the short edge of the piece of paper. I then folded the paper in half so that the section with the cross was showing. This was my favourite technique as I felt that it was the best way of opening the poster for the design to be shown. By opening the poster this way, you get to see each quarter of the poster gradually before seeing the whole image.
