The module has helped me to grow a better
understanding of the impact which colour can have on a design and its viewing
audience. I found the research that we did into colour very interesting and
enjoyed learning about the different colour theories and ways in which colour
is used within graphic design work. I
have developed a further knowledge of what it takes to produce designs that
have the correct use of colour to compliment what the design is trying to
achieve. I have successfully created 3 separate publications based on the
knowledge which I have learned from the module and the research which I have
done for the module. In the process of creating these designs I have gained a
better understanding of how to use the programme InDesign and the reasoning
behind using this programme in the creation of publications. The skills that I
have learnt in designing publications using pagination, grids, colour etc, will
continue to help me within my work in my future design work and will continue
to develop as I produce more work. If I were to revisit this module I would do
more research into paper stock for the pantone booklet. I think by doing this I
could use some different paper to print on that was a bit more unusual. This
would allow me to create a book that looked more aesthetically interesting and
would be more eye catching. Although I feel that the outcomes I produced were
successful I feel like with more guidance and feedback I would have been
happier with the outcomes which I produced.
Overall
I am happy with the outcomes that I produced in response to the briefs because
I feel that they have accurately and successfully created the
deliverables. I have learnt a lot more about the importance of
attention to detail when creating design work and I am confident that I will be
able to continue to produce work through being more selective in the choice of
the colour, type, format and layout. From learning more about these details of
graphic design, I am certain that I will pay much more attention to these
specific details which will help my designs to be more aesthetically pleasing.
It will also mean that I will be able to justify the reasoning for using
certain details as I have learnt more about the reasoning behind being specifically
selective in the use of colour, type, format and layout within design. Although
I found the information that we learnt about grids and colour useful. I do feel
that I could have gained a lot more from the module if we had a tutor for the
sessions to help with feedback and understanding. I think that this would have
benefitted me so much more as we would have had structured sessions in which we
could have gained feedback from peers and from the tutor as well. This would
have pushed my designs further as by creating the improvements that could have
been talked about would allow me to grow more as a designer and gain a better
understanding of the correct way to use grids within my work.
