The initial designs consisted of a very varied amount of work. We did a lot of experiments with different styles of hands and then also some experiments with some designs moving away from the hands. The work that I personally produced looked at things that are associated with a hand but I thought that for development I could try not going for the obvious. I therefore looked at a skeleton hand and a finger print. I also used the grid that we had seen in the Library to look at created a logo type. These experiments can be seen in Figure 1.
After our initial crit we were advised to definitely use a characterised, simplistic hand but make them look less computerised in order to fit better with the identity of 'Handmade'. We were also told to move away from using black letter as it didn't work with the style of our hands and to look at using a typeface that was more quirky for the handmade style.
After looking at all of our designs we decided that we wanted the colour scheme to be the pale pink and deep blue. We really liked the way that they worked together and thought that they would help to create an inviting atmosphere encouraging people to come to the exhibition.
