Design Development - Screen Print

Design Development:

After the initial crit and explaining my ideas to my peers the idea that was praised the most was the fourth idea. This was the idea where I wanted to use a variety of words with a hidden line from the poem amongst the words. This was the favourite design ideas as it incorporated the way in which Adam writes his poems through blinking. For the design I used the typeface futura. I decided on this type face as I wanted a well known typeface for the traditional print but one that was modern looking as Adam was very young so it needed to represent his youth. Originally, I was going to have the words of the line from the poem exactly the same as the other words but I realised that by laying it out like this the sentence did not stand out quite enough even when underlined by the eyelids. I therefore decided to make these words bold in order to make it clear to the public that the words create a sentence that makes sense. I also originally wanted to have the eyelids all the same size however realised when I started designing that this wouldn't work due to the words being all different sizes. Due to this reason I had to make them all different sizes but I think that this worked when all of the different layers were placed on top of each other.

Once I had finished the designing, I started to think about colour choices. I wanted the the words to be in black so that they didn't stand out to much or seem at all important. I started to think about adding a different colour to the words that made sense and having the same colour for the blinks. I thought that this would help people who were unaware of the concept to understand the print. I therefore decided to go for a dark blue as the sky and space are known to be a deep blue which are reflective of the line of the poem being used. I did however want to include the green that was Adams favourite colour. This is when I decided that I wanted to added a separate layer to the print that would be on a transparent green paper. This would separate the blinks which represent Adam choosing the words from the words themselves helping to strengthen my concept.
