Before we started research we wanted to come up with the name of the exhibition. We decided on the name 'Handmade' as we thought that it was a good representation of a traditional print exhibition due to all the hard work that goes into each print. We then conducted a varied amount of research for the brief in order to help us define a style that we all wanted to work with. We initially started looked at different poster and campaign styles to look at the colour schemes and inspiration for possible typefaces. We looked at the pink and blue combination and also use of the primary colours. The 'Brick' poster as seen in Figure 1, gave us the idea to try working with black letter.
We also went to the Library to look at the space that we were going to have to use for the exhibition branding. The photographs we took at the site can be seen in the pictures above. The space was quite small which is something that needed taking into account as it meant that the designs couldn't be too elaborate and take up too much space in the room as we needed to account for all of the prints that were needing to be displayed. The library had a lot of interesting architecture which we considered being a basis for our designs.
One of the main sources of inspiration from our research was the recent campaign made for Byron burger which is seen in Figure 2. After creating some initial design and more research we decided we wanted hands to be the main part of our identity and the designs for Byron burger displayed a fun and quirky style which we decided could be nice to work with.
