Penguin Book Cover - Book Summery

In Cold Blood, Summary:
The book is based in November 1959. Herbert clutter goes to inspect his ranch the morning of the 14th of November while the other side of Kansas, Perry Smith and Dick Hickock meet up. That same morning Hickock and Smith turn up at the Clutter home with a shotgun and a knife while the Clutters are busy going about their usual daily routines.
The bodies of the Clutter family are discovered by Susan Kidwell. The police are initially surprised. The detective who investigates the murder is Alvin Dewey and he thinks that the killer must be someone close to the family. 
As the investigation begins, Perry and Dick are back at Dicks home before fleeing to Mexico. The investigation continues and meet a lot of dead ends while Perry and Dick run out of money in Mexico. After deciding to go back to the states, Perry goes through his personal belongings and comers across memories of his childhood. His mother and father rode the rodeo circuit until they separated leaving Perry being passed from home to home. Two of his three siblings have now killed themselves.
The investigation of the Clutter murder is at a dead end until a man in Kansas state prison hears of the murder case. He is certain that Hickock is responsible and considers talking to the authorities. He decided to go ahead and talk to the police causing a manhunt to commence.
Before being caught, Dick and Perry return to Kansas and take up residence in Miami. They are eventually found and Dick confesses after intense questioning however Perry follows suit. The two are condemned to death after a smooth trial.
While in prison the killers attempt to appeal their sentence to death, however have no luck. The day of the execution Dick is awkward and Perry is remorseful.
