OUGD503 - Collaborative Brief Primary Research

Survey:
We created a survey in order to find out the general publics view on the two different types of dance and to define the problem which needs fixing.

The Questions:
What is your age?
What is your gender?
Do you have any knowledge of the dance world?
If yes, what is your favourite style of dance?
Have you ever seen ballet dancing?
If yes, what platform?
In three words, how would you describe ballet dancing?
Have you ever seen street dancing?
If yes, what platform?
In three words, how would you describe street dancing?
Describe what you think a ballet dancer is. - background/upbringing, costumes, personality, style, etc.
Describe what you think a street dancer is. - background/upbringing, costumes, personality, style, etc.

Questions for Dancer:
We assembled a list questions for the lead dancers of the show in order to gain an understanding of what each individual needs to be doing, and to help us begin to create a brand which is representative of the dancers and their choreography. These questions were answered when we went down to London to have a meeting with the dancers.

How many dancers are they including in their pieces? - Head shots, names and information will need to be collected for each dancer.

  • After discussion with the dancers, they are going to talk to the other members of their groups and dancers which they know and they are going to send over the information of which dancers are going to be a part of the show and their head shots and background information to go with it.

What kind of music do they like to dance to? Can they send us some samples as examples?

  • Sending over samples.

Is it possible to choose the music for some of the dances which you choreograph? If so, let us know so that we can check copyright.

Can we use the theatre at Rambert? If so, what dates would be available?

  • Going to check the available dates and let us know.
  • 100ish seats to fill.

Does the theatre have its own copyright protection?

  • Needs to double check but thinks yes.
Would they be free on the 23rd of February for a photoshoot to help promote the show? - Costumes, need to be stereotypical to their dance style.

  • Neither of the dancers are free on this date so we have discussed the use of dancers here in Leeds whom we could photograph in a silhouette style so that any dancers can be used for the shoot.
How should we go about selling the tickets?

  • Everyone involved will help with advertisement and sell to friends and family that would want to come and support.
Opinions on:
Charity?

  • The chosen charity is Lupus UK. We have chosen this charity as mine and my brothers (lead dancer) mum has suffered from this illness since we were young and her life was nearly taken. We want to use this opportunity to raise awareness of what lupus is as it is quite an unknown illness and also raise money to support the charity which helps lupus patients.

Name?

  • Unified. This name is representative of the problem we are trying to solve. We want to unify the two types of dances.

Dates?

  • Looking at the Easter Holiday but if not then late May or early June.
