OUGD503 - Ella's logo Initial design

Ella's logo Initial design

Ella originally asked me to design her something that would represent her dance studio and portray the message that the children who come to her studio will learn the skills that it takes to become a star.
Below is a drawing which we came up with together. She wanted it to include the 'take' board that is used on screen on the set of a film. She then wanted it to be enclosed by a circle and then there to be stars around the edge to represent the stars in the name of the company.

I took this design and placed it in illustrator in order to vectorise it. Below are the three very similar but different variations of the design. I have changed the placing of some of the text and stars across the three different designs.

Originally Ella wanted the writing to be in the circle around the edge of the design. I did this in the first design of the three but after consideration we thought that the writing being around the edge looked quite messy. We therefore tried the typography inside of the board and added more stars around the edge of the design instead. This looked a lot better than the first attempt, however including all of the writing inside the board made it look a little crowded. It also made it very confusing as to what the logo was for. The "styles stars" and "take two" were too close together and it wasn't clear that the design was predominantly for the company 'styles stars academy'. The final design removes the 'take two' as its not necessary for the design. This was the favourite out of the three as it was the most clear. However, we were still not sure whether this design suited the style of Ellas dance school. She wanted it to be much more colourful and pretty. I therefore decided it would be best to have a closer look at existing dance school logos. In the meantime I asked her to come up with a more focussed understanding of what the message is that she is trying to portray and who she wants these designs to be aimed towards.
