OUGD503 - Luke Holland Brief Further Development

Further Development

Once I had developed the Burley Bootcamp logo to a style and standard that Luke was happy with I started to design the rest to follow a similar style in order to keep some consistency across all areas that he works in. The second logo that I designed was the Burley Runners logo. When I spoke to Luke about this logo he said he wanted me to incorporate the cow and calf rocks that are in Ilkley as this is where he takes the group on runs. I therefore used the silhouette of the cow and calf rocks for the logo designs. The first one has "Burley Runners" written on the inside of the silhouette, sticking to the same typography that I used for the Burley Bootcamp logo. This allow for the silhouette of the rocks to be very clear and recognisable to anyone who knows Ilkley and the rocks. I thought that this design worked quite well however I decided I wanted to try combining the silhouette with the typography as can be seen in the second logo design which is below. This design is a little bit more abstract as the rocks are not so clear to make out but I personally prefer this design as I think it os much more interesting. This therefore would make it more eye catching for the public to notice.

The third logo design that I was doing for Luke was one for his sports massage practice. For this design he wanted something based on the human form. Sports massages are focussed on healing muscles so I therefore thought that the use of the human for accenting the muscles would be the most representative of this practice. I used the pen tool in Illustrator to make the basic shape of the human form to create an image of a mans back. I then once again used the same typography for the name of the massage practice and placed it underneath the illustration. I also tried this illustration with a bit of colour by overlaying the design with a green layer. I chose to use the green from the beret that Luke had showed me as I felt that this would give the colour some connection to him and what he's about.

The last design is for his personal training practice. I originally edited the design that he had told me that he liked. I added the typography that I have used across all of the other designs meaning that it was now consistent with the rest of the designs. This design was an abstract representation of a bicep curl. The second design I didn't end up finishing as we decided that it really didn't suit the style of the rest of the designs that I had been experimenting with. Luke had asked for a skull and cross bone style design but using the equipment which he would use with his clients in the gym. He asked for a kettle bell, two bar bells and then a battle rope around the edge of the design. I found this design really tricky to get right as I was finding it extremely difficult to get the rope to look natural. I briefly showed Luke this design and we decided that it would be much better to stick with the first design as it was more simple but effective.
